It is a 19-day trip (10th Jan 2023- 28th Jan 2023) encompassing Davao City and the province of Bukidnon in the Philippines.

It will be an enriching trip, with a variety of experiences to be had, including:

  • Clinical experience within 2 public hospitals serving the rural province of Bukidnon. Experience firsthand and learning how medical services are being provided by experienced doctors and allied health professionals, despite limitations in resources and facilities.

  • Working with medical professionals providing medical missions in the local community; ie you may have to provide medical services under a mango tree, city gym etc

  • Learning from medical and mental health providers on how to run health education sessions in rural settings.

  • Providing peer support to young Filipino people through pop-up safe spaces in malls

  • Cultural immersion by experiencing Filipino hospitality at a local home, helping to whip up local delicacies (vegan and vegetarian options available); appreciating tourism sites.

An Expression of Interest goes live until the 15th November 2022 (disregard the date on the website). Interviews are planned to be held shortly after for those shortlisted, with plans to hopefully finalise the cohort by end of November.

The St Vincent's Student Society is pleased to announce that our annual Biomed Link Conference 2022 is being held again this year! Biomed Link is a FREE conference for students by students and will be held on Friday the 9th of December 2022 at the Bio21 Institute in Parkville, and virtually. Students from all biomedical fields, all universities, and all university levels are welcome!

Registration and Abstract Submission is open now!

Registration (due November 18th): https://t.co/MJX1jfvrkL

Abstract submission (due September 29th): https://t.co/NaS7TdeHTC

Students interested in presenting can deliver either a 10 minute oral or a 3 minute thesis presentation. Our conference theme is 'Every level of Biomedicine: Molecules, Cells, Systems and Societies', so we want to encourage presenters to identify which level/s of Biomedicine their research falls in, and how it 'links' to all other levels!

More broadly, Biomed Link aims to provide biomedical students with an inclusive space to present their research, develop their science communication skills and network across a variety of disciplines. The conference is the perfect place to enrich your CV with an abstract presentation in a less intimidating environment! Whether or not you present, everyone can join in on the networking opportunities and activities during the breaks. Prizes will be up for grabs!
